MAC Kids Volunteer Form

Thank you for your heart to service in MAC Kids! Our desire is that you would experience the life-changing grace and truth of Jesus and be better equipped to extend love to our sweet MAC Kids. We believe that investing in children is one of the greatest impacts we can have for the Kingdom and that this investment will bear fruit for generations.
Our hope is that each child will see the love of Jesus though all of us. Whether you are rocking an infant in the nursery, helping a toddler with playdough, or walking an elementary child through the gospel, you are communicating to them that they are loved and valued by Jesus.

It is desirable that all teachers are members of the local church; if they are not, they must be in full harmony with the doctrines and principles of Missoula Alliance Church. (macmissoula.com/believe)

Policies to Encourage a Safe and Positive Environment for Our Children

1. Our goal is to generally staff each child's classroom with two volunteers, with at lease one volunteer over the age of 18. If only one volunteer is staffing a classroom, the door to the classroom must remain open.

2. No child will be separated from the class by a single volunteer, unless such volunteer and child remain in visual contact with others.

3. Smoking, using tobacco products or alcohol, or being under the influence of alcohol in the presence of minors is prohibited.

4. Using, possessing, or being under the influence of illegal or illicit drugs at any time is also prohibited. Please contact a supervisor if you are required to take prescription medication that may interfere with you ability to properly supervise children.

5. We strongly recommend that parents take their children to use the restroom prior to each class or service. If a child needs to use the restroom during class time, the following guidelines must be strictly followed.
Only female volunteers may assist children in the restroom.
In classrooms with adjoining restrooms, a female volunteer may enter an adjoining bathroom to assist the child, but the door must remain open. If necessary, to protect the child's privacy, the volunteer may stand in the doorway. Female teen volunteers may assist in the bathroom only if an adult volunteer is in the adjoining classroom.

In other church restrooms, group restroom breaks should be scheduled, when possible, with two volunteers assisting the children as needed. If individual restroom breaks are needed and the child does not need physical assistance, a single volunteer will escort the child and remain outside of the bathroom. If the child needs assistance in the restroom, two volunteers will escort the child and both will remain inside the restroom.

6. Physical contact should be age and developmentally appropriate.
Appropriate touch - these are recommended as pure, genuine and positive displays of God's love:
- meet the child at eye level by bending down or sitting.
- listen to him/her with your eyes as well as your ears.
- hold the child's hand while listening or speaking to him/her or when walking to an activity
- put your arm around the shoulder of a child when comforting or quieting is needed
- pat the child's head, hand, shoulder, or back when encouraging
- gently hold the shoulder or chin of a child when redirecting the child's behavior
- hold a preschool child who is crying
Inappropriate touch - the following types of touch must be avoided:
- kissing a child or coaxing a child to kiss you
- extended hugging or tickling
- touching a child in any area that would be covered by a bathing suit

7. If you have any questions about these policies, or if you have concerns about another volunteer's failure to comply with these guidelines, please immediately contact a supervisor.
